Also known as the Double Violin Concerto, it is perhaps one of the most famous works by J. S. Bach and considered among the best examples of late Baroque music. Bach wrote it between 1717 and 1723 while he was the Kapellmeister at Anhalft- Köthen. Later in 1739, in Leipzig, he created an arrangement for two harpsichords, transposed into C minor, BWV 1062. In addition to the two soloists, the concerto is scored for strings and basso continuo. The First Movement is characterized by the subtle yet expressive relationship between the violins using fugal imitation and much counterpoint.

後巴羅克時期中,巴哈雙小提琴協奏曲可謂最人所共知及附代表性。此作品是巴哈在一七一七至一七二三年期間,在柯登擔任宮廷長時所作。一七三九年巴哈在萊比錫把此作品改編成雙古鍵琴演奏,曲調亦移調為C小調,作品編號為BWV 1062。樂譜中除了獨奏兩聲部外,亦譜出伴奏的絃樂部份及數字低音。在第一樂章中,兩技獨奏小提琴展現出賦格曲中模彷與對位的微妙關係。
