“Die Fledermaus” or “The Bat” is probably the most famous comic operetta by Johann Strauss Jr. An operetta is literally a “little opera”, originally a play with overture, songs and dances, which are catered more towards entertaining the audience with light music. The story is a typical tale of disguise, love and intrigue. Rosalinde, the leading soprano, performs the Hungarian folk tune “Klänge der Heimat” to convince others that she is a Hungarian countess.
